Johan was born in Stockholm, Sweden. He earned a Bachelors degree from the School of Cinematic Arts at USC, Los Angeles and began directing commercials and music videos after graduation. Johan’s work has been featured in SHOTS, shortlisted in Cannes and won numerous awards.
His short film PASSING HEARTS (En del av mitt hjärta), which Johan wrote and directed was honored with several prestigious awards at film festivals over the world, including the audience award in Berlin. Johan made his debut as a feature film writer and director with the poignant drama SUDDENLY (Underbara älskade). The film, which was both critically and commercially successful, won the Peoples Choice Award at the Swedish Film Awards and the Audience Award at Nordic Film days in Lübeck.
Following up on the box-office and critically acclaimed hit, Johan wrote and directed AMONG US (Änglavakt) – an emotionally gripping story about faith, hope and love – starring Michael Nyqvist, Izabella Scorupco, and French star Tchéky Karyo.
His third feature I LOVE YOU – A COMEDY OF DIVORCE (Jag Älskar Dig – En skilsmässokomedi) was a bittersweet, modern take of the classical “comedy of remarriage” sub-genre.
In 2018 Johan was hired to direct episodes of the thriller series MOSCOW NOIR which premiered on the Scandinavian streaming platform C More and Studiocanal. He is currently in post-production of drama series THICKER THAN WATER for Viaplay.
Johan lives in Stockholm, is married and has two children and plays a decent game of tennis.
